The Clown

A little side project I work on when its quiet in the studio. My plan is to make a little animation about Mr Clown, how he flew out of the card and came out the other end as a 3 dimensional character and his journey back. So here's some pictures of him made out of plasticine.

Get Well Soon

here's a little insight to the work process of my latest short film, called Sorry To Hear Your Toe Got Needled.

My grandmother has always been my biggest inspiration. She encouraged us to draw before we could walk and one of my earliest memories is drawing in her studio. Sadly she got ill when I was quite young and my memories changed into visiting her in the hospital where we would fill the walls with our drawings. Its those visits that sparked the idea for my Get Well Soon film. Hospitals are normally sterile and almost morbid. How I wish I could have made those drawings come to life, and the teddy bears talk, I'm sure my grandmother would have loved that.

The film “Sorry To Hear Your Toe Got Needled” is part of a series of gloriously injurious animated short films called Get Well Soon produced by 12foot6. Based on a series of interviews the project has recorded some pretty amazing stories about personal injury. In this case Mrs Fox is interviewing Mr Bear about his dramatic impairment. We hear him talk about, well… scars, manliness, sexuality…and so on. A hospital scenario that we all would like to witness if we would be the fortunate patient.

Here are some behind the scene pictures. I began by drawing designs of the bear and fox , and from there learned how to crochet to be able to create the look I wanted....and they sort of took their form as I was crocheting. Surprisingly I found it therapeutic and a welcome break from working on the computer.

Working from the timings of a pre-prepared flash animatic, we stop framed the puppets. We then brought one of the drawings on the wall to life through frame by frame flash animation, which then was edited into the film.

I would like to say a big thank you, for making it all possible to Kim(animation), Nich(lighting), Fu(after effects), Silf(patient), Lynne (puppet workshop), Julia (helping with the armature).

I will put up the film soon. X

Penguin Door Stopper

Today I went to Broadway market. And came back with this. A penguin door stopper. I just couldn't stop myself.

Hello

Blogging... slightly scary I must admit. Its like staring at the empty page in a sketch book, not really knowing where to start or how to make your mark.  But you got to start somewhere. so here we go...

And with Halloween fresh in mind, I'll start by putting up a few gruesome illustrations. This was for a pitch I did for a collection of Cautionary Tales.
